Question Desktop Manager 5.0.1 keeps asking to upgrade Bold 2 OS/software

Desktop Manager 5.0.1 keeps asking to upgrade Bold 2 software even though i alreday did an OS upgrade to 5000586 on T-Mobile. Should I keep ignoring it or just do the upgrade again? I did uninstall the DTM becasue I wanted to use the one without that God awful Roxio Media Manager. I THOUGHT that un/re-installign would get rid of the OS upgrade files, but it didn't.

How can I stop it from always asking to upgrade the OS?
How do I remove the OS upgrade files?

Whenever you open DM you are connected to the internet. T-Mobile has a newer OS than the 586 and DM is trying to get you to upgrade to that. I don't remember the number of the current Tmo upgrade right off the top of my head . . . The way to get it to stop is to upgrade to the newest Tmo OS or one that is newer than that from some other source. Or, when you use DM disconnect from the 'net first.

I think there's an option to opt out of checking for updates every time you connect when you install the DM, isn't there? It's been a LONG time since I installed DM!

There is, JB. I have a little tutorial on how to do it in the Technical Support Blog link in my signature.

OK I was thinking that it was referring to the older upgrade, because my Bold 2 is at 5.0.0.586 Platform 5.1.0.146
The newest is 5--714. I'm downloading it now. Thanks guys.

Speaking of updating: which is better: DTM Updating OR Wireless updating from the device?

I've not tried the wireless update, so I'm not sure how it works.

Whatever you do, make sure you have a clean backup before you get started!

Wonder what effect the wireless upgrade has on your settings and/or third party applications.

They're both good. Wireless updating is a couple ticks slower, but not enough to make a difference . . . .

That's strange, because I never get any update notifications, and whenever I manually check for updates, I get nothing, even though there seems to be an offical update for AT&T for the BlackBerry Bold 9700. It's the same on my actual handset whenever I check for updates using the built-in applet.

    Go figure.

Found a little simpler method on BerryReview:

    • Start Menu->Run
    • Type in regedit to open the Windows Registry
    • Navigate to: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Auto Update]
    • Locate the value called EnableAutomaticChecking and double-click the name.
    • Replace the value of 1 with a value of 0.
    • Restart BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

Good one, Roger! Warning to users: be careful when editing the registry.
