cleaning/replacing the trackball on the Bold

Have you guys seen the video for the disassemble for the bold? It's nothing compared to the work you used to put in for a curve where u could just pop it from the outside. This thing is gonna be a pain in the gluteus maximus to take apart. http://cnn.cn/shop/video_info.php?videos_id=26

Good Lord. That isn't going to be any fun. Why would they make it so difficult to clean the ball? I suppose the telco techboys want to be the only people cleaning them....

I would be afraid to take mine apart. I took my Curve apart once... That cost me $549.99 + GST and $25 bucks to activate it on my account.

Wow, that's way too much work for me. I love being able to just pop the ring off and replace my trackball on my curve. I change it every 2-3 months when they start to get dirty looking. I'm too chicken to take a phone apart like that

It's disappointing that they did not go with the "atomic trackball" design from Javelin that is supposed to be insulated from dirt, dust, and debris....

same with the micro-usb charging ... im starting to think the bold is like a transition device whereas the javelin, kickstart and thunder are the next gen.

I once read that the bold was originally a product conceived in 2006 and
specifically designed for AT&T.If you think about it the design is
everything but compact, almost outdated if you compare it
with "inferior" model 8900,which also counts with micro usb port
    and 3.2 mpixel camera...

Will it be possible to maybe buy the "atomic trackball" from somewhere like cnn.cn and install it in the bold or is it going to be a completely different design?

when you put it that way it does indeed make sens. The javelin, flip and storm all kinda look alike and the bold is just out there looking completely different.
exemple: it has a round back as opposed to a round front and a flat back on all the others.

Whoa, that seems very hard. I guess I'm going to have to resort to Sharpie'ing my trackball black when it gets dirty enough.

Reminds me of the assembly of the Moto Q9H. Definitely going to be fun once we get one in here to repair the trackball.
