You probably know this already, but start with a battery pull and reset your device. Also check your application memory-options>memory, and see how much memory you have left. If you're low on memory, like down to oor below 20 MB you may need to delete some of your apps. I had a Bold before I got this 8900, and it would not function correctly if the memory was too low.

How do you know there are no apps open?

Sounds like a memory problem with either too many apps open of you have too much software.

Have you tired a battery pull? Before look and see how much free memory you have and then after the battery pull see how much it has changed. You got to close apps and not let them run in the background. Some apps are written poorly and use way too much memory.

im gonna second Chokem and say that a good start would be a restart... and then check your available memory...

Chokem and Greg are both right. Even if you don't have anything running, too much stored on the device can kill you too. I put a guide here for cleaning your device out and keeping the free memory up there.

You have an app open that has the camera in use, or your memory is zero.
Battery pull should clear up either.
