Rogers to launch fast BlackBerry Bold aimed at business users on Thursday

Rogers is launching the new, high-speed BlackBerry Bold smartphone this Thursday.

The Bold is primarily aimed at global business users and Rogers has the only network in Canada capable of running this smartphone. RIM has described the BlackBerry Bold as a high-performance smartphone designed for professionals who want an "elegant" device.

No pricing details have been announced yet, but the Bold is expected to be expensive to operate with pricing similar to Apple's iPhone, also only available in Canada through Rogers.

While there's usually always anticipation for new BlackBerrys, the buzz is more subdued than it was for the iPhone likely because the Bold is primarily aimed at business users.

RIM is expected to unveil its answer to the iPhone later this year.

They're lucky to get it nice and (sort of) early. But very unlucky in that $399 w/ three year plan is what they get (consumers).

Yeah. Once you put it that way... Wow. I live in Florida and it's cheaper than if you live near HQ.

    Thumbs up

Well, it looks like that long, painful wait is finally over. According to all kinds of tipsters, the BlackBerry Bold touches down for the first time in North America (in its home country of Canada, obviously) come August 21st (that's this Thursday, in case you don't own a calendar, computer, or have any friends). That's right -- the Bold will land on Rogers (where else?) with a price tag set somewhere between the dark valley of $300 and $400, according to Research In Motion co-CEO Jim Balsillie. Reports say the phone will be available from other carriers by the end of the week, though we don't have any definitive rumblings that confirm such heavenly ideas. You'll know more when we do, of course.

    Where is it at 399$

I just got back from Rogers today, they were quoting me 725$... I'm thinking unlocked ones would go cheaper than that? Anyone know how to knock the price down on these things?

The sales person said it might just be their "introductory" price....

My Curve went swimming this summer, and finally bit the dust a couple days ago... I though it was good timing to get a bold, but not for that price damn it!

anyone know how to do CPR on a blackberry?

I just got off the phone with Rogers CS and they quoted me "as an upgrade" $600.00 - are they nuts - Guess I am going to try calling a store and see if I can get the $399.00 deal ...

    **UPDATE**
SO - if you get a new number and plan the BOLD is 399 on a term-
BUT if you are asking for a hardware upgrade - 649 (50 dollar rebate) leaves you paying only $600!!!!! ouch.
Guess waiting another MONTH for the prices to drop is what I am doing.

Spoke with CS from Rogers with regards to a hardware upgrade and was told that I can get a Bold for 399.00. Only catch is that your monthly plan has to be more than $45.00 a month. I am definately going to be bold and get it tomorrow. That is if they got the stock in already. Crossing my fingers guys....
