    Bold Red Bezel... almost....

    Better Pic.

So.. I ordered a black bezel and am using it now... so I decide to paint the old one red. Haven't put it on yet as I got really frustrated putting the black bezel on.... but here is what it will look like.

    What do you think

the color looks ok, but it looks like you used nail polish.

no offense, it may just be a bad picture.

is the bezel made of plastic? if its metal maybe you can look into a cheap anodizing kit, as a bonus you could turn it into a little business.

if its plastic, i think they sell paints that simulate anodized metal, but that are suitable for plastic. look into it

    love the idea though

Did you sand it down? Also, did you use a clear coat?

Nope, just painted right over top of it, and then clear coat. Been letting it set to make sure its solid before I start fighting to install it.

FYI right now the red is just sitting on the black bezelled bold.... not installed just yet. You can see the screw holes above the red center bar above the screen .

In my opinion, it's better to sand it down first. Apply a primer, then paint and clear coat.

Also, your idea to wait a bit is smart. Give it a few days to allow the paint to fully settle/cure.

Yep... painted more than a few curve cases last year and found that sanding or not sanding, didnt make much difference. Store bought paint will only stick as long as long as you give it plenty of cure time... so... gonna RESIST till Monday to put it on.

I love my black bezel...so its gonna be a touch switch I think

I agree with the poster above sand it down a bit. Make sure you give it plenty of "rest" so as the paint will cure.

So, seeing this thread has pushed me off of my a** to go paint my Bold's battery cover. I'm painting it white, the same color I painted my Curve..

Honestly, i thought about it... but the way the bezel is made [or the way I think its made] is that its covered in a foil... and my thought was sanding would rip and make it even worse. So thought I would try just straight paint and see what happens.

Ah, I see your reasoning. However, I've heard that the original bezel is only a chrome paint. But I won't be sanding mine down, so who knows.. Haha.

I know that the Demo units bezel was a cheap painted one, but the production/customer ones seem to be foil wrapped or something... hard to tell actually. Oh well... will let it set for a few days and post pics of the finished look.
