This question has probably already been asked, but, does anyone here know how much money AT&T will exhort from it's current customers (not new) who already have a contract for the Bold?

well beings the Curve is like $400 I would assume it will be in that range for those that aren't able to upgrade on their contract.

That may be wishful thinking. The Bold has so much to offer getting it for that cheap, already being in a contract, would just be too good to be true.

You have to realize this tho.....from a marketing standpoint no one is going to go out and pay$600 for a phone.....especially in times like this....$$$ is hard to just let go....

So reguardless of the feature it may have over the curve both RIM and AT&t have to look at marketing and will set the price based on that

I disagree, times are hard yes, but how 1st gen iphones were sold for what was like $599 ? Before, att started subsidizing the handsets. People will buy them, of course they would sell more at a lower price point, but the same from a marketing stand point it becomes a status symbol and/ or more exclusive...

You talking apples and oranges....AT&T didn't set the price, Apple did....and when the 1gen iPhone was released the US economy was peaking.......the time has changed since then....americans are pinching pennies....

I'm not saying that RIM/AT&T will price the until at $400....all I am saying it that i will be in that range....I am saying $400-500 due to the weak US economy

plus...the Bold is currently selling in Hong Kong for about $250 american dollars

The US economy has little to do with RIM's pricing,Being Canadian, the blod will probably come out in the 650 - 750 range due to a strong Canadian economy.

I cannot believe they're still charging so much for the curve. I got mine about almost a year now and it cost me $150 on craigslist. Heck! the guy even delivered it to my house no scratches nothing the trackball had been slightly used but that didn't matter as i had sold my 8100 pearl then for $200 Oh yeah, no plan; nothing just the phone...

The economy or people pinching pennies does not effect the price of goods like "high end" electronics. Except for discounts for contracts and rebates by the carrier a manufacturer like RIM can/will never sell its flagship phone at under $500-$600. Especially if carriers like Rogers and others around the world are selling flimsy 8300 curves for $500, and 8800 for $600.
Someone mentioned earlier the exclusivity/status symbol factor which would make sense, and if the phone was being sold outright without contract in the states for like even $300 there would be an uproar by other consumers and carriers around the world, and you would have a huge influx of people from outside the country buying handsets and taking them out. Just like you did with the first apple iphone. I always laughed at how at&t bragged at the sales of the first iphone because you know how many of those handsets were shipped straight out of the country? Nothing to do with at&t. Apple was able to get away with it because the iphone was not being sold outside the US. However the Bold is a different story because it is being sold around the world and RIM has other carriers to answer to. Not just at&t and Rogers.
