AT&T has exclusive rights to it, at least temporarily.

I believe besides ATT having an exclusive, RIM also didn't design the Bold to work on Tmo's newly added 3G or Verizon's EVDO (besides there getting the Storm.)

I thought for sure it would be October 27. Oh well, as long as you get it.

Correct. The bold doesnt have support for Tmo's 1700 3G and therefore it is useless to release the Bold on Tmo for RIM as it is their flagship 3G device.

    Finally...
There doesn't seem to be any mention of a Best Buy release as speculated in other posts. Is there any history to them releasing early for a retailer to give them a boost and probably for profit?

the 26th of october date we saw for Best Buy is (this is my educated guess) most likely their "In Stock" date as opposed to their "On the floor ready for sale" date which will probably be the 4th as well

ps: what does AT&T stands for anyways ?
