    Unless its a lie,

    In this day and age, I was expecting it to be made in a 3rd world country. Designed in Canada maybe but made elsewhere...

    Its a good surprise though!
    Yes, I have a couple of relatives that work for RIM (in Waterloo) and yes, they do manufacture some stuff in Canada (my 8320 is made in Mexico). My immediate family lives in Markham, ON. I'm just the outcast and made my way to Michigan somehow...

    Battery is still made in China. Leather case also from the People's Republic

    I guess you can't win them all.

    Units made in Canada tend to be of better quality. Cheap labor isn't cheap for nothing. I always try and buy units made at home.

    Avoid units made in Mexico like the plague. Hungary is ok.

    2 out of the 10 BlackBerrys I have were made in Mexico. The others Canada. While I vastly prefer the Canadian built units, the 2 from Mexico are not bad really. One must remember that just because the labors cheap does not impact quality as much as the policies & procedures in place. Then if they are given good equipment & materials to work with the finished product can actually be quite good. No matter where it's made you could get a defective one as they are mass produced & have a warranty just like other products.

    Parts are all made in China. Does it really matter where it was assembled?

    I think a Mexican works just as hard as a Canadian if given the right incentives.

    agreed, as much as it is indeed cheap labour the "cheap" word is really relative because what may seem cheap to you might be enough to feed a family for a whole week. catch my drift ?

    Majority of American made items are crap. European made items are better. That why I drive and Acura instead of a Ford.
    Iphone = Ford
    Blackberry = Acura.

    Better qulity, better re-sale value.

    When a device first comes out they're canadian made, as product speeds up they move some production overseas/mexico. Buy a BB early, and you'll get Canadian made. :-)

    So. How many of you folks are going to stop using your phone when the latest ones from RIM are NOT made in Canada?

    Now let's not get ahead of ourselves. This I think will probably not happened. That is very large source of income in Canada. That's the US economy is going to **** write now. When you start out sourcing production to save cost, the value of your product diminished. If they start making European cars in the us and not Europe, then it wouldn't be European made.

    To answer your question, it depends where the hardware of the devices is made. They can assemble it anywhere they want.
