RIM sees “unbelievable” potential in Wi-Fi and UMA

The Canadian Press today reported on RIM’s co-CEO, Jim Balsillie, comments about the current state of the market. Quoting from the article:
[Balsillie] sees “unbelievable” potential in Wi-Fi technology and UMA – unlicensed mobile access, a system allowing seamless roaming between local area networks and wide area networks, delivering voice, data and Internet access to mobile devices.

This convergence, Balsillie said, is “incredibly positive to a carrier that thoughtfully embraces it.”
It sounds like we can expect more UMA-enabled devices from RIM.

doesn't it seem like this one is uglier than the kickstart?

i mean, it looks worse than the curve to me, and the kickstart looks cooler to me.

    what do you guys think...

maybe i should open a new thread, i will...

it IS smaller than the 87xx - significantly. the fact that the 87's are so thick has a lot to do with the feel of it as well as the angular shape. if you hold the 9k after the 87, you'll be happy - i guarantee it

    You put the size of the 9000 as 12cm x 7cm x 1.5cm I just mesured my 8707g and it is 11.3cm x 6.9cm x 1.8cm.

whats the processor speed mesured in mhz?
ho manyy megs or gigs of interal memory
    is it a full qwerty?
as far as UMTS and hsdpa radios go would you be able ontmos new high speed network?
what are the frequncies it operates on?

    is the simlock removed?
dose it suport any 3d graphcs

    would you sell it?

how can one get in on device beta testing like you?

all this stuff has been answered already (if not by me then by various BGR releases)... except maybe 3d graphics but that's sort of a no-brainer - blackberries aren't these kinds of devices.. not yet anyway.
as far as selling - no no no - stop asking, everyone.
and I already explained why i have one to beta test - please read the entire thread

becsta - my measurement isnt precise but its' definitely smaller than 87xx - the other thing having to do with it is the countour of the package. the 87xx is more like a box - this one is more "oval" in side profile - the 1.5cm is only at its center - the edges are very thin.
if i can somehow get a caliper to measure it, i will - but there have been numerous BGR posts and such that show the device next to others.

I Agree Cherri.....I was really hoping we could have a metal tank like the iphone is....oh well. Stability is a big deal. The 8700 was a tank...

at this point release schedules are just speculation (and thread-jacking).. this thread is meant to be about the hardware/software side of the 9k so lets try to keep it to that, shall we?
