Have you tried pulling the battery? With the device powered ON, remove the battery for a few minutes, then replace it. See if the randomness continues.

Also could be time for an OS upgrade.

What OS do you have on it? Do you know where to look? (Options>Device>About Device Versions, third line down.....will look like v6.0.0.xxx)

Hi, I left the battery out for the night, it has not helped. it has now started to shut down after being on for about 1 minute... so have to very quickly check the OS..
it is also still dialing out and gets stuck...6.0 bundle 695 , v6.0.0.246.... it is also flashing different screens... so difficult to navigate...

Wow, you are on one of the original OS's that came out on that device. .600 is the most current, at least on AT&T.

I'd suggest a complete OS wipe and fresh install with the most current OS. Below are instructions for how to do this if you're not familiar with the process:

Download an app to your PC called BBSAK (BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife). You will use this to wipe the OS from your device. You can get it here: www.bbsak.org

Download the most current OS for your device, which you can get here. https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/D...00E7D4

Connect your device to your PC and launch BBSAK. It will ask you for a password. If you don't have one set for your device, just click OK.

Choose the option to Wipe Device. When completed, you will be left with a white screen and an app error 507, which means the wipe was successful.

    Disconnect your device.

On your PC, navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\AppLoader. Delete the file at the bottom called vendor.xml.

    Connect your device.

In that same folder as above, there's an executable file called Loader (has a little phone next to it). Double click on that and it will start loading your OS.

Do you have many third party apps on your device?

    thanks again!
