psi chick, please go back to the first post in this thread and perform step 5 again. Did you execute the downloaded handheld software package? If you don't have the shared folder, the installation of the Handheld software package was unsuccessful.

Psi chick,

Have you downloaded and installed it to your PC. If you haven't do so now. Even though its already installed on your BB, if the package is not installed on your PC you won't have anything to edit.

bond_z3 I am not sure why you are having so many issues. I have an 8830 (Verizon), have never done anything outside the box with a phone, new to Blackberry, and had no problem unlocking all the themes following the instructions at the beginning of this post.

Granted, it was a bit time consuming since I had to download the latest OS, after calling my IT dept to make sure that was ok, and had to re-activate my wireless...but all in all, it was still pretty straightforward and almost magical in the end.

I am now truly a believer in pinstack. This is my first post.

Now if I could figure out how to stream internet music so I can try out my new Motorola S9 headphones that Santa better be bringing me....

Tried it out today, and the instructions worked. I like the Telefinica Theme. My only question is will i ever see the vendor.xml file again?

Not this specific one but if you ever upgrade your Device Software on your PC, it's younger brother will be show up.

Re: Straight line instructions to activate Vendor Themes (Except 8130)

I tried to unlock the vendor themes and am having a problem. I made the changes to the vendor codes in the respective locations and proceeded to save the modified document as Blackberry2. I did not delete the original version though. I then went in and removed the vendor.xml file and closed the folders. After I connected the blackberry to the computer, the bb automatically prompted me that changes to the OS software had taken place and asked me did I want to install the updates. I said yes and it reinstalled everything but when it booted back up, I did not have any additional themes. Anybody have any ideas??

Re: Straight line instructions to activate Vendor Themes (Except 8130)

Well, I hate to ask this but why did you save the modified file under a different name? The Apps loader is looking for a specific alx file for the items to load. It used the old one since that is the file that it is looking for. If you want to keep the original rename it blackberry.old and the new one blackberry.alx and it will work.

Great walk through, very simple. But if you want to "relock" one of the themes can it be done, or if you want to unlock more themes in the future can you?

Re: Straight line instructions to activate Vendor Themes (Except 8130)

Looks like a winner. Tried the other instructions, but apparently my technical expertise was a little too low

Had to download and install the update to get the .alx file to modify, and a few minor problems with re-registering applications after the apps reload, but generally speaking, worked pretty well.

Thanks for this. I guess know that I am a geek, I'll start trying some of the other tips and tricks as well.

Should be no problem. Just re-edit the blackberry.alx file and either reverse the change for the one you don't want anymore, or add your vendor ID to the additional ones you want.
