Re: Straight line instructions to activate Vendor Themes (Except 8130)

why is it that every time, for the past week i've tried this and i always receive an error claiming the browser file cannot be found b/c the net.rim.blackberry.alx file is not found? this process does not work for my VZW 8830 and it's making me mad. i've done everything stated, but after i delete the vendor.xml file i receive the same error message about the browser. i've uninstalled, redownloaded, reinstalled, both device and desktop manager, but everytime it's skrewing me up, and now i wanna throw this POS bb out the window. can anybody help me?

Did you rename the blackberry.alx file or move it. When in the process exactly does the error message appear?

i don't do anything to the blackberry.alx file. i edit the material inside for the theme filesets and i save it. i delete, and later moved, the vendor.xml file and when i run the apploader that is when i receive the error message. as i've stated before, the error message returns every time i delete the vendor.xml file.

Re: Straight line instructions to activate Vendor Themes (Except 8130)

I'm a blackberry newbie (but not PDA newbie) and purchased my 8310 Curve last weekend. Wanted new themes and followed these instructions (with trepidation I admit). I'm happy to say they work perfectly on the 8310. In fact, three other themes I downloaded but couldn't install now work also. Thanks so much for all of your help. It is really appreciated.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

So you deleted the vendor.xml file ... Then later moved it? From the recycle bin? And what for?

Re: Straight line instructions to activate Vendor Themes (Except 8130)

I have done this before on another computer but when I try it on my computer, it is not listing my device in the software under DM help nor do I have the Shared Folder in the Research in Motion folder as listed...I am working with a Verizon 8830 OS 4.2.2.179 (339) and DM 4.3

Re: Straight line instructions to activate Vendor Themes (Except 8130)

first two times doing this process i deleted the file but didn't fully erase it from my pc b/c that would be retarded. so, i kept the vendor file in the recycling bin until i finished running the DM. the third time i moved the vendor to a different folder, and still receive the error message.

now, i uninstalled the DM, reinstalled it, reinstalled the device OS, do the whole process over again but receive the same browser error message no matter the vendor file is in its original folder or not. now, i can't even run the DM.

That is neither a letter or a number, it is the special character, Vertical bar. On my PC it is the Shift + backslash. It is the same as the symbol associated with the SYM + N key on my Curve.

Hope this helps.

Re-read/perform steps 5A and 5B. You need to reload the handheld software package.
