    Advertisement

    Does anyone have this file with the vendor codes already changed out so I can simply download it and install it?

    I do not understand the directions for unlocking it.

    Thank you very much for any assistance in this matter.

    I do not. I took this on as one of my first projects as a Stacker and it's actually quite easy. What trouble are you having?

    Re: Sprint blackberry.alx file for 8703e

    1. I read through almost the entire thread here. I'm lost because I downloaded some blackberry.alx file I found on here somewhere since I don't have one on my computer. It does not have any spot for vendor codes that I saw.

    2. I already have the most recent software on my phone so why would I run the upgrade for it?

    3. Why can't someone just put up the "blackberry.alx" files for each of the carriers so that we can all have a universal file to load onto our phones?

    4. I am on Sprint and have a 8703e BB. My software on my phone says: v4.1.0.359 and my vendor code is 104.

    Any and all assistance will be very much appreciated.

    TIA

    Re: Sprint blackberry.alx file for 8703e

    Go to Start>My Computer>C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\
    Shared\Loader Files\8700-v4.1.0.286_P2.0.0.123

    Click on that and open it.

    Look for whatever carrier has the model BB you use. (In this example it is an 8700)

    Right click on it and select "Open With." It will show a list of applications. Notepad should be highlighted. Click on that.

    Look for the following text

    <!-- Cingular US filesets -->
    <fileset Colour="True" KeyboardType="Qwerty" Java="1.0"
    series="8700" _vendorID="102">
    <files>
    net_rim_theme_102_320x240.cod
    </files>
    </fileset>

    <!-- T-Mobile filesets -->
    <fileset Colour="True" KeyboardType="Reduced" Java="1.0"
    _vendorID="100">
    <files>
    net_rim_theme_100_240x260.cod
    </files>
    </fileset>

    Once you know your vendor code, highlight the vendor code wherever you see it and REPLACE it with your carrier's code. I replaced 102 with 100 because my carrier's code, T-Mobile, is 100.

    Then click Save from the Menu in the file. Reconnect your BB to your PC via USB. Open Desktop Manager and then Application Loader. It should find the updated alx file. Run the App Loader. DO NOT disconnect the BB. Once it's finished and has rebooted (you will see your carrier's splash screen), THEN you can disconnect the BB.

    To find the new themes, go to Options>Themes. Scroll down and the new themes you unlocked will be listed.

    Believe me, the first time you do this it WILL seem confusing. I had to have someone point that out before I FINALLY found it in my own Pearl's ALX file. Once I found it, I have had no problems.

    Oh and if anyone just has a Sprint alx file please post it. Please.

    We should get a Sticky that has all the carrier's alx amended files in them. That would help a lot of people out because I read in other forums that many people want to unlock, but are really confused to how.

    OK so I loaded the OS onto my computer and found the blackberry.alx file. It will not load with the App Loader.

    When I select "Add" it then it tells me that "No additional applications for your device were found."

    What do I need to do?

    What software are you loading to your BB? Is it a cdma software? If it is and its not Sprints have you deleted the vendor.xml file?

    No it's the latest Sprint software. I just loaded it today. So I guess I won't be needing to delete the vendor file huh?

    Also I was able to figure out how to do it prior to the OS upgrade, but since the upgrade I will have to do it again because it changed the .alx file back.

    No worries though.
