Re: Pinstack's Downloads directory - Theme installation help

Hello, I am also trying to install themes on my BlackBerry (obviously)... I was able to download 5 themes the other day, I think someone else had mentioned them on here (vodafone, O2, etc.). Here's my problem, those themes loaded and run just fine. But when I came on here to try and d/l themes from this site, they do not show up on my phone (7100g). I went to options, there is no "Advanced Options" option. They do not show up in the Themes section.
I also went back to my desktop manager, tried to reinstall the applications, but when i did that I noticed that it was only letting me select the ".alx" files, not the ".cod" files. When I select them, it gives me a syntax error and won't let me select those files. Are the ".cod" files needed, if so, how do I get around this error so I can d/l the themes? Also, if it is needed, how was I able to install the other themes I d/l off the internet and they are working? I am thoroughly confused now, and I have been searching this site high and low, hopefully I didn't overlook the answer to my question, as I know how annoying that can be for everyone!

    Thanks!

Re: Pinstack's Downloads directory - Theme installation help

matthewgard, Welcome to Pinstack. What version of the OS are you running. When downloading the Themes you need both the theme alx and cod files and for the first install of a PTB created theme, the Placmic Theme Reader alx and cod files. All need to be in the same folder, and need to be left there after the install, unless you want to remove theme the next time you try to load an App. You will not see the cod file when you try to Add App with the DM, because the it's the alx that tells the DM which cod file to use.

I believe the files you installed were installed by the OS and you modified you blackberry.alx file to enable them, but I'm not sure.

    Hope this helps

Re: Pinstack's Downloads directory - Theme installation help

If i may add any chance those prior themes are for os 4.0.xx? and the new themes are for o.s 4.1 or higher?

That's jumping out at me with regards to (vodafone, O2) themes.

I knew it was going to be something stupid. I, for some reason, thought when you guys were talking about OS 4.1, you were talking about the desktop manager version. I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work. I just downloaded and installed the 4.1 OS for my handheld, I think that helped out. Thanks for your help, sorry for the stupid question!

Read the first post in this thread, Ring Tones and Pictures without a Data Plan. You can get the downloads needed on the Blackberry Downloads site.

    Hope this helps

ambeos5 - I am having the exact same problem. I have a 7130, installed the themes via DM...tried to change permissions....performed hard re-sets...still no themes appearing under the Themes section...Someone with a 7130, please explain why?

Shouldn't 7100 themes be compatible with 7130? or Not?

Re: Pinstack's Downloads directory - Theme installation help

If by chance you have several other themes already installed try removing one or two and see if the new theme then shows up? There seems to be limits as to how many themes you can have installed at one time.

    Things to re-check:
Be sure you have os 4.1 or higher and desktop manager 4.1
Consider trying an ota (over-the-air) theme install. If ota is used you must also install the ota theme_reader.jad file. The ota file is different than the DM install file.

bbballer, you're guessing right. Your device is a 16MB device and won't support 4.1.x.xxx

    Sorry
