    hi
    I edited the code but it is not letting me save the file saying i do not have access and gives a acess denied error.I am using vista. I am the administrator. I changed the code and tried saving the changed file as blackberry.alx on my desktop deleted the file from orignal location to replace it with one from my desktop but inspite of renaming it to alx format the type still shows notepad.
    to grant myself access to make changes to this file i tried to go in properties of the folder and remove the read only rights by unchekin it...it goes thru that process of removing the readonly protection and once its done still doesnt give me the rights to do it whts more frustrating is that the readonly acess is there again inspite of me making changes to it
    now am truly frustrated

    please help

    Sounds like this is a Vista problem. Have you rebooted you PC lately? Might just help.

    Re: How to Unlock all Hidden and vendor themes.

    Hey, Stackers. I'm back in this thread. I still can't get the unlocked vendor themes on my unlocked Pearl (I have AT&T service). I have an edited .alx file which I dropped into the Common Files>RIM>Shared folder. I run the App Loader and nothing happens. FYI - I am running OS .96. I've been trying to get these lousy vendor themes for 10 days now.... It's crazy.

    You need to put it in the folder that has the name of your OS download file. Not the ...Shared folder but the one two levels further down.

    It won't let me. "The source and destination are the same."

    What is the complete path name where you saved the blackberry.alx file?

    And did you delete the vendor.xml file from the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\app loader folder now that you have saved the modified BB.alx file.

    The reason I say save it as a new name, so you can always go back if you want to.

    Thanks... worked like a charm.

    I didnt delete the vendor.xml file. I thought you only do that when upgrading/downgrading to a new OS.

    I think so. I found that you have to use the one meant for your os version. I have one modded for the new os 1.101 from russcrypto if you feel like updating I can send you that alx file. And on another thread, reddog posted this. -->
    I've never had an issue with unlocking themes. I've done it every upgrade without a flaw.

    All I do is open up the alx file. Hit CTRL + F, Type AT&T, start editing.

    <!-- AT&T US filesets -->
    <fileset Colour="True" Java="1.0" series="8100" _vendorID="100|102">
    <files>
    net_rim_theme_102a_icon_240x260_b.cod
    </files>
    </fileset>

    All I do is just add the vendor code to the string, for each vendor that has a 240x260 theme available. I don't delete since it could lead to issues. Rather just add to it. Should only be like 10 different spots to input the code.
    Just make sure that the red part is your vendor code. That 100 isn't always the same.

    I'm reluctant to delete the vendor.xml file because I'm not upgrading my OS. If I delete it, it will be gone until I install a new OS.

    Then instead of deleting it, move it or rename it.

    do you have any other Pearl OS on your PC besides the one you are trying to install? if so, you will need to delete it/them from the add/remove software in the control panel.

    if you do not, did you remember to delete the vendor.xml file?

    or last..are you trying to load you current OS with the edited blackberry.alx file? (i've had issues before with the DM application loader recognizing the OS after editing and loading...i had to do a java wipe and reload the OS that way)
