yeah. i do everything, and then after updating to the newest OS i turn off my phone. when i turn it back on i change the blackberry.alx file and run the app loader again. this time, nothing happens, no new themes or anything. after a couple of more tries my browser dissappears and still no new themes. i have a vzw 8830. any help?

I hope someone can help. I cannot find a "blackberry.alx" file anywhere on my machine. I also have tried following the file path in the directions, but I don't have a shared folder. I've looked in my loader folder, but still no .alx files. I have an 8300, and I use my work email server.

Anyone have any suggestions?

You will have to download the operating system to your desktop first... then you will have the file.

I am super new to all of this and I know this is a simple question, but how do you download the OS to my laptop? I've tried looking through the blackberry app but I cannot find anything to help me out.

You can download it from either your carriers site or from here . I beleive it is the latest OS for the 8300. Make sure you do not mix up OS versions 8310/8320/8300 os versions are not interchangeable. (as far as i know at least) Welcome to the stacks. Hope it helps.

I'm a super noob. I have spent hours searching for my OS through my carrier (AT&T) and on this site. I cannot find it, and I'm super frustrated. I must be the only person here who can't find their OS.

I have an 8300 running v4.2.2.89 platform 2.4.0.39. I don't know what else to. Can someone help?!? Sorry to be such a child, but your going to have to talk to me like I'm 5.

Thanks Lavagirl. The Gods were smiling on me. I was able to find it on AT&T's site. I couldn't find my version anywhere (guess I just didn't look hard enough).

Anyway, I guess all I do is make the changes to vendor code, save it, and install the application through Blackberry manager. Is that right?

After reading through this thread and trying to figure out how to change my vendor code, I finally punted and Googled it.

Well, I am a forum noob so I can't post the link. I found it on forum.crackberry.com.

It basically tells you how to remove the vendor code instead of changing it. I followed the simple instructions and now my phone has all the unlocked themes.

An example of how my file looks is this:

Before
