Hello - My 1st post here on pinstack. I've become an active part of the Howard & Blackberry Forum communities, looking forward to doing likewise here.

I've had my Pearl for 2 weeks now ... lovin' it! My main challenge right now is figuring out how (or if it's even possible) to circumvent my IT's draconian policy of not allowing downloads or installs of 3rd party code.

I was able to install the 4.2.0.64 Pearl update, but that required me to need re-registration on our BES server ... so its a "Silver Bullet" ... one I shouldn't use too frequently.

I'd love to unlock all of the Pearl themes from the other carriers (I'm on TMO) / while I've not yet tried it - editing of the .alx file looks reasonable enough.

My question; though, is whether there is a way to do that directly on my device or via the Desktop Mgr WITHOUT needing to re-register on the BES?

Does an OS update/upgrade "always" require a BES re-registration???

    Appreciate the suggestions/guidance ...

    /BD

    bikedogrun, Welcome to PinStack.

I am not an expert on BES, but from everything I've read, it is always required.

And I truly hope you are joking about trying to "circumvent my IT's draconian policy". A company that is that concerned about Network security, probably has a "draconian" view about employees that violate corporate policy and agreements. You might not like the results.

Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help with this problem or your BB.

Re: Themes: How To Find, Download, Install And Activate

    1. Download the zip file to your PC:
    2. Unzip the file to a folder (name the folder).
    3. Connect your Blackberry to your computer.
    4. Open up Desktop Manager –> Application Loader –> Add.
    5. Find the file called “ThemeName.alx” and click “OK”.
    6. Find the file called "Plazmic_Theme_reader.alx" and click "ok".

After the installation finishes, you can now change your themes by going to Options (wrench icon) –> Theme.

    Hi GAA126,

The 7100i does not allow for that option. I'm not aware of any software that allows it either? sorry.

    Thanx N8DBB

I have a 7100i. You have to have the plasmic theme reader file. Otherwise your phone won't read the theme file. I did'nt even need a hardreset. Thanx.

    Custom permission

I have 8700g with the 4.1.xx OS. I am unable to change the permissions to Allow for the first 2 (Connections & Interactions) There are some sub-categories under these 2 that will not allow me to change permissions.

My themes still show up in applications, none in themes.

    Hi jlindahl,

I am going to take a stab and say your theme(s) not showing is due to the BES restrictions set on your phone. If your on BES you may have to consult with your IT staff on that.

    hope this helps?
