Question What BB to dev for next?

    I started developing themes for 85xx OS5 (8520, 8530, 9300, & 9330), which made adding in 93xx OS6 (9300 & 9330) relatively easy since they have the same screen size. The when I got my Bold 9650/OS6, I started building for 96xx OS6 (9650, 9700, & 9780). This of course made adding 89xx/96xx OS5 (8900, 8910, 8930, 8980, 9630, 9650, & 9700) relatively easy too and for the same reason.

As I've been working with these devices I've discovered that 85xx OS5 easily imports to 93xx OS6, as well as 96xx OS5 to 96xx OS6, which of course saves time. As well as I can resize a lot of images for 96xx OS5 to use with 85xx OS5, and the same for 96xx OS6 to use with 93xx OS6. So for the most part, once I get a 96xx OS5 and OS6 theme done, converting them to work with 85xx OS5 and 93xx OS6 is pretty easy. Not to mention, I only need to make one svg (Composer file) to work with both 85xx OS5 and 93xx OS6, and one to work with 89xx/96xx Os5 and 96xx OS6.

So I'm wondering what the most logical device/series would be to add to my lineup of devices I build for that would allow me the same advantages I have now with being able to reuse images, import existing themes, etc? Preferably without getting into touch screen devices, which I've heard can be somewhat difficult for develop for.

If anyone could make suggestions as to where to go from here I would really appreciate it because I don't want to jump in and start making for a device thinking it has the same screen size and will be easy to add to my lineup only to find out it takes more work than all those above combined LOL!

Thanks in advance to those who reply!

Looks like you got all the popular ones covered unless you want to go with the torch 9800 which converts well to the strom 9500 and i know you said you didn't want to go with a touch screen but really there not all that difficult
The only thing i would watch out for and i know you said you go from 8500 os5 to 9300 os6 just dont go from 9300 os6 to 8500 os5 it does work for the most part but you will have a problem with the svg and other things not working properly

    Great, thanks!

I've already been hunting around eBay for a used 9800 to get dirt cheap since I only need a working screen for the most part, but so far no luck. I just got done checking out one that looked like complete garbage and the seller was nice enough to inform me that the reserve was over $150. Which seems completely insane to me LOL! But I'll keep looking

As for the svg, I've already learned that the hard way LOL! The svg for 96xx OS5/OS6 I use 80x80 icons to ensure the new message indicator doesn't get chopped off since I believe the actual icons used are 68x68 and 80x80. Then for 85xx/93xx Os5 & 93xx OS6 I use the standard 85xx series with 52x52 icons since I believe their actual icons are 52x52 and 52x50. So far this has worked for me and it's a lot better than having to make a separate svg for each device and OS since that's the part that tends to put up the biggest fight LOL!

But thanks again, and I'll keep my eye out for a 9800
