Non-Plazmic Theme Building, how is it done?

So I've built a couple themes using plazmic and they've all come out nice. But I hate being limited and tied down with the dimensions zen, icon, and today layouts. I know there is no way to do anything else in plazmic so I want to ditch it and expand my theme building ability.

    Where do I start?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We have to wait for a new Plazmic with more possiblities. Atm there is no way for us to break the limitations...

    Plazmic is the only way.

Just wait for the new plazmic wich is as hard as waiting for the 4.5 OS.

Well I have 4.5, so come on plazmic!

What I really mean though is I don't want to be tied down by a theme "builder"
I want to expand to free-form theme building. You know, all the fancy ones like leopard, crossbar, ect.

I know its probably going to be code extensive, I just need help getting started.

So this means there is a newer builder out there, just not released to the public?

I'm interested now, any info on future releases would be nice =]

Should follow suit behind the official release of the 4.5 OS

This is one of those times when I miss the Palm OS.

RIM is being stingy with their APIs. Plazmic theme builder is so limited that you cannot even change simple things like menu highlight colors, because the applications do not adopt the colors of the new theme. I know a lot more is possible because the carrier themes do things far beyond the capability of Plazmic.

There is a reason BlackBerry is known to have a neanderthal user interface (improved to cro-magnon in BB OS 4.5). If RIM would allow some real serious theme development, maybe the BlackBerry could join Palm and Windows in having a polished and professional look and feel.
