    I am so confused!

I thought I was ok with this kinda stuff and turns out I am not at this moment, I have the zip files down pat, the alx via the DM. But I want to post OTA's for my themes so that people have access to them!

Also how do I make is so that the pictures show up on the bb? Like my screenshots?

Thanks for the walkthrough, simple to do.

It's really easy to do if you just follow the steps.
Just make sure there is a file named .htaccess in the same folder as your jad and cod files, if there isn't one, make one using notepad or wordpad and save it as .htaccess.
It should work fine after you add the AddType's in from the first post.

open notepad, write these three lines:

    AddType text/vnd.sun.j2me.app-descriptor jad
    AddType application/java-archive jar
    AddType application/vnd.rim.cod cod

then click save as and name the file .htaccess

Put this file in the same folder as your .cod's and it should work.
After uploading to my site, it took a day until it worked for some reason.

PM me if it still doesn't work

So does the encoding have to be set to ANSI?

I've tried everything else and it saves it as .htaccess.txt

These are the steps I followed-

    1. Open Notepad

    2. added:AddType text/vnd.sun.j2me.app-descriptor jad
    AddType application/java-archive jar
    AddType application/vnd.rim.cod cod

    3. Save as: .htaccess with file type as "all Files" not text

    4. and encoding set to ANSI.

    Is that correct?

There's your problem. The file needs to be named EXACTLY .htaccess If you add the .txt to the end it won't work. You may have to upload it to your server and rename it there, windows sometimes has issues with file names that start with a period. HTH!

didn't add the .txt to it. Seems to work with encoding is set to ANSI and doesn't add the .txt to the end.

Now that I got the file, seems that yahoo webhosting doesn't allow these files to be uploaded. back to the drawing board.

    any workarounds for yahoo webhosting?

They don't allow files to begin with "."

Yep, most free webhosts don't allow to configure htaccess by the user I found a free webhost at "ohost.de". OTA downloads work without all this htaccess stuff. It's set up correctly by the ohost-admins already.

The first thing you need to do is find out if your host actually lets you edit htaccess files. Because of security problems which can arise, many hosts stop their customers from editing it the .htaccess file. Therefore you should check the Frequently Asked Questions area of your host to see if you have permission to edit the file (failing that, email them).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Htaccess

Btw. notepad always adds ".txt" to files you are saving. A workaround is to type following "htaccess" and save. If you dont use "" notepad renames to htaccess.txt. Some ftp-servers do weird thing, so best way is, upload as htaccess.txt and rename to .htaccess

Use a real ftp-client, like smartftp, filezilla, ect.

Yahoo Webhosting isn't free. And I've tried every FTP client I could get my hands on. But thanks anyways.

Contact the yahoo-support and ask how htaccess can be configured by you. If it's not possible, register a free account at "ohost.de". Host your jad/cod files there. Then you can put links on your yahoo-pages which point to the files at the other host.

    Code:
    <*a href="http://accountname.ohost.de/file-name.jad">Click for OTA Install<*/a>
    (remove *)

I've already contacted Y!Support by phone and htaccess can't be edited by me, I even asked them to add the lines of code for me but they won't. I'm just going to leave it at that. Thanks.

Giving up so fast?! Takes 5 minutes to register a free account, which is able to serve your jad/cod files. My account is http://brombeere.br.ohost.de/ , there is just this simple index page and my themes in some sub-directories.

So...? Anyone figure out how to do this on a Windows hosted site?

Trying to host some on my site, but I keep getting:

    "HTTP Error 404: Not Found"

If you want to try it, go to mobile.rolyrolls.com
