    DEC used to use them a lot, but I don't think it was IBM that killed them, more Microsoft and Intel with faster and faster processors, simple operating system and the capabality to have multi-cpu systems which were smaller, cheaper and easier to configur, along with higher speed. i still wouldn't write of RIM or Nokia, yes Apple is currently doing brilliantly, but the consumer is fickle, will they continue to buy or will they decide that it is no longer cool, like the feelings about Facebook? Many a prediction is destroyed but assumptions of what is good today will be great tomorrow.
