It would make sense for them to be
interested in Palm if for no other reason
    than all their Patents.

My Question is: is there room for another
    OS Company?

RIM, Android, Apple and Windows all
currently offer great devices with plently
    of options.

How about one that does what all these do, is compatible with everything we know (cross platform), easy to use and innovative, and really, really answers the needs of the general public and not market niches,as it happens today ?
It will take lot´s of capital to fight the moguls |!
But copying what already exists, change it a bit (for instance the UI) is no developement, no evolution . If this is what HTC is going to do, it probably makes business sense to lay the foundation for their future as a OS developer. If not it´s just another economical exercise to milk a few bucks, and it will not bring us any joy - besides the fact that we´ll be tempted to spend hard earned money to try it out...those of us who can, of course.

Nothing. They started with WM and just added Android. This is just another OS for sale. A new alternative !

This is the new route Samsung is taking is well. First phasing out WinMo then Android and behold Beda. Looks like competition could really heat up soon and industry innovations at it's fastest growing rate ever. I wonder why LG and Sony Ericson hasn't step up their game to come out with a proprietary platform yet.
