Quite a good review Rog, thanks.
Quite large and seemingly heavy cases.
So, the phablet almost becomes a tablet?
A year and half ago you couldn't imagine yourself carrying anything larger than an iPhone ?!

No, the cases aren't "large and heavy," but they do add some heft and size. To me, it's manageable.

I want a glass screen protector damnit. I'm too cheap.

Anyway, so you don't need a flatbed to carry it?

Cas and I are going to look at the note 3 when it hits, but I'm worried carrying it in the woods. A case like this worries me when it comes to snagging branches.

How big is it really? I mean comfort wise. I'm not a huge fan of clipping and my down vest has some big pockets. I wonder with the surface area of the screen if I'd have to worry when lugging a large piece and crushing against me.

You definitely need both hands to work with it, especially with a case on it. I need to see the Note 3 to make a determination, but I'm really liking the size of the Note 2. The SURFACE would probably add as much or a little more than the Otterbox Reflex does to your S3. With the added CONVERT piece, a little more than that, but a lot more protection. In your case, I'd take the belt clip off the holster and use that as screen protection while in the woods. Sounds like that would do the trick in your vest pocket.

I'm gonna try the VITREO on the Note here eventually. Didn't really care for it that much on the S3, but this one seems different for the Note.....like it would lay more flat on the screen, whereas on the S3 it kind of draped over the edges of the screen a bit.

I want to try one. Phantomskinz are nice but I miss the feel of glass.

Biggest issue on size is either snagging or flexing iny pocket. If I'm splitting wood I'm up and down wrestling with logs. With that the vest is best. If cutting it will snag.

Father in law has a huge otterbox and loves it, but I'm afraid I'll knock it off climbing on and off the tractor.

We've decided to look at the note 3 and save the January upgrade for S5. Whatever it ends up being I'll have to protect it while outside.

I reckon if I had that type of work to do I would also consider a rugged case like that. Or alternatively leave the smartphone in a safe place and work via Bluetooth. Each to his own obviously, but I couldn't carry that lug with me all day.

I actually carry the device in my front pocket on weekends, and I usually wear basketball shorts.

Nope. Pretty much first class all the way.
