    Do we need to install an anti virus? I know AVG is good but do we need it and are there any downsides to installing one?

    I wouldn't stress it unless you get stuff from somewhere other than play, amazon, or a recognized developer on xda.

    Would imagine if rooted you could boot to recovery and wipe system, restore a nandroid or reinstall. I doubt it will survive.

    Questioning how it locks down the device. I always though admin/super user was needed.

    what harm is there in downloading a reputable anti virus from Google play for piece of mind. good antiviruses to look at are lookout, Avg, Avast and good one's that also detect adds include: Dr.web,Comodo...take your pick cats...all are good
