I'm guessing this may be standard procedure to prevent any monopolies or anti-trust litigation?

I would think so, especially when you look at the size of the merger, got to make sure there will be no price fixing like that doesn't happen.

Apparently enough people seem to have issues with this merger going through.

Monopolies must be checked... and stockholders interests, from both, have to be protected. With this amount of money flying around, there´s lots of opportunity for CEO´s and punters in general, to make great speculative profits. And then there is the big issues concerning patents as well... in general we´re looking at something more complex, eventually, than the IMF loans to Greece, Ireland and Portugal... that´s how big this is.
Concern for the final clients ...? Yes, it´s there. A suffix at the end of all the paperwork.
