In short it's because of this one word "Address".

Just like your home in the real world there is an "Address" associated with it in order for society to communicate with you among many other reasons. (excluding Jerimia Johnson types).

We don't associate our identies by ISP's, Cities, real addresses, etc. Can you even have any social media account (Twitter, Facebook) without an email address?

IDK? It may not be dead technology but it's in hibernation mode.

Heck, the day will come when your address, as we know it, will fall by the wayside.
We´ll have have a ISP loan account to pay for a house in the Clouds.
A physical address will only be OBLIGATORY for the IRS. Just so they don't loose their grip on you.
    Geez. This sucks.
I love e-mail. That was my first reason to start on a PC. Wayback in time. MSDos days...

Great point! I am not aware of any social media or IM accounts that do not require email addresses.

    Me too .

I have several friends whom I only contact via email, not IM or social media. I typically contact those folks on a daily basis.
