Sounds like they have a decent amount of interest in the app. That's good for them. Maybe they can just block the Android version and get it on the iPhone soon.

It was on xda, but that really was a given.
I found it, but saw it wasn't working. If I read correctly it didn't work at first then it did, then it didn't.

Blackberry knew full well it was out in the wild, and I struggle to believe they couldn't stop it. I think they got beat up server side and realized they were in trouble. My hunch is this would've happened regardless.

That's what I think J. I think they just hit their oh sh!t moment with the reported 1.3M leaked users and thought of the "let's blame it on the leak" excuse to rethink the whole thing. Another embarrassing blow to RIM.

    Right.
I'm pretty sure the app wouldn't authenticate prior to Saturday. It had to work at some point else it was useless as a beta.

They knew it leaked the moment the first users tried to use it. I doubt that they had no way of stopping that build, or simply cork the android side. They got blindsided and like you said, panicked.

I call bs on the excuse.

It's with these shenanigans that BB blew it all.
How many times did this happen with anything they did?
