Review: BerryTunes MP3 Player for Blackberry

BerryTunes - MP3 Player for BlackBerry
    by Virtual Views Mobile Software

Verdict: The software really does what it says it will do!

Turn your BlackBerry into a portable sound machine! BerryTunes allows you to transfer MP3 files via your USB cable and listen to them through the speaker on your BlackBerry.

    • The BerryTunes MP3 Browser for Windows allows you to easily select the MP3 files you want to send to your BlackBerry.
    • Multiple selections can be sent at one time.
    • You can even preview your songs in the MP3 Browser before transferring them to your BlackBerry.
    • BerryTunes can store up to 16 full length songs or 16MB of storage, giving you approximately one hour of compressed music on your BlackBerry. The maximum length of a single song can be up to 12 minutes in length.
    • For ease of use, we enabled several keyboard shortcuts in BerryTunes to control playback and change the order of the songs on the BlackBerry.
    Features:
    • Store up to 16 songs
    • Transfer via USB cable
    • Preview music before sending
    • Easy to use MP3 Browser for Windows
    • Change the order of the songs on the BlackBerry
    • Supports industry standard MP3 Files
    Notes:
    1. This software is not for transferring ringtones to your BlackBerry.
    2. Playback is through the BlackBerry speaker only (headphones not supported).
    3. Random Seek is not supported (ie. skipping through parts of a song, etc.).
Price: The software retails for $15.99 and can be found on handango - You can download a Free Trial for 3 Days or 30 Plays!

I tried the software for a few hours and decided to purchase it. When you purchase the software they will give you a download link with a key for your software. If you have downloaded the trial software delete it and redownload the software from the new link they will send you. For some reason the trial software had a few gliches in it (incomplete transfers of some songs, and no continuous play of listed songs) once I downloaded the link I received after purchase, all was well.

    Pros:

The software appears to greatly compress the songs but the quality is not affected and the sound is great! Songs that were 6MB in size and at least 128kps once transfered to the BB were a little larger than 1MB after compression.

You can change the order of the songs on your BB by pressing and holding the alt key and using your trackwheel to scroll songs up or down. This allows you to change the order of song playback if you like.

The last really nice option I found is that once you start a song the player will continue to play each song on your list until it reaches the end, I found this to be a really nice feature I laid my BB down and listened to the music while I did some minor work on a laptop, really nice playback quality with my 8700g!

Con: Cannot listen to music via headset.

Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 (5 Thumbs UP!)

Awesome msbrenda, very nice review. An app that I would be very interested in, if my BB permitted.

    Brenda,

This is great. However, the application is large for a 64mb system like the BB 8700g. Do you know of any plans for a streaming music service for BB - something like Yahoo or MSN or Rhapsody?

Make sure you completely delete the trial version off your BB and computer then install the version they give you from the download link with your payment receipt. Then it will work fine, the trial version does not work properly even with the registration key.

Nope, probably in the future now that RIM is coming out with Blackberry's like the 8100 there's no telling what can happen in the future! Streaming video and audio would be great with these new processor intense BB's coming out! Faster processors would be a must have for such capabilities.
