    Review: Aerize Email Alerts

Verdict: Super efficient and beautifully implemented- enough said
Pros: Tiny memory footprint (22k), looks great, faultless
    Cons: None
    URL: http://aerize.com/blackberry/software/alerts/
Price: $5 until end of October, normally $10
    Overall rating: 5/5

This will be a short review and that is a good thing in this instance. Aerize Email Alerts is designed to do one thing which is to display a pop up alert when a new email or SMS is received. This sounds like a simple feature to create, but it is fraught with problems and one error in the implementation and the whole idea is out of the window. BlackBerry’s are designed for email, as you all know, so anything that makes the process just that little bit quicker is a good thing.

When a new message is received the standard alert will sound, or vibrate, and all you need to do is pick up your BlackBerry to see who is making contact. At this point you have options to open the message, delete it, mark as read or to simply click ‘OK’ to read the whole message later, but to keep the alert active. In practice this works extremely well and the presentation is superb (more on that in a minute). If your BlackBerry is locked you will not be able to see the email or SMS until you unlock it which is exactly as it should be.

I don’t know about you, but reading a new email on my Bold has been a bit of a fiddle and the process of unlocking the keyboard, navigating to the messaging application and then opening the actual message is a royal pain, especially if spam is waiting at the other end. This way you can take a quick look and delete with one click if the message is irrelevant.

Back to the presentation- the black rounded pop-up looks very professional and suits the look of my Bold very well. The fact that a contact picture will also show up is even more impressive and the pop-ups will even appear while in other applications or games.

Could it be improved? Maybe. The ability to scroll through the whole email would be nice and to even reply whilst in the pop-up window would make this a KILLER application. To be fair it already is and I spent my $5 in the blink of an eye- superb!

I didn't see a point at first either. If you don't keep your bb out it may not do you much good. But if you have your bb out it let's you see at a glance what email or text is coming in. You can ignore it, open it, or delete an email without having to open your messages.
It grew on me while trying this and peekawho.
I am keeping my email alerts on my bb.

But if you are browsing, playing a game, viewing media etc. and get an email you need to exit to the home screen to see who it's from, with this app and the peekawho app, you get a pop up that tells who it is so you know whether to stop what you're doing and answer it, or ignore it and keep doing what you're doing. I love the idea, just waiting to hear from someone who has tried both apps to say which one is better and why.
