In the review it says that phone book will be handled like a cell phone: one phone number per entry. Am I misunderstanding the statement is this a huge takeaway from previous BBs? This wouldn't be very PIM friendly either.... |

Let me clarify. I asked about the phone book transfer function via Bluetooth and how one would sync when there are so many different formats with different in car Bluetooth systems. The RIM exec said that it would use a format similar to that used to store on the SIM, one name and one phone number. The PIM address book remains the same. Unfortunately, Bluetooth in car manufacturers have not recognized the need to have a mapping mechanizm to map fields from one device to another. They have gone the oldest phone technology route where you have to enter the same name each time with a number (think old flat file versus relational database structure). In my opinion they should have standardized on a structure similar to MS Outlook and allowed a sync function that would have been similar in operation to the sync in the current BB or MS WM devices. Without such sync functionality it is easy to have your car's address book out of date and sync with your handheld device. An alternative which would have been cooler yet would be a mechnizm to allow the in car unit to access the handheld address book as if it was part of the system. No sync required and it would be different for each user automatically. |
