He was recently "upgraded at work to a 9700 Bold" and hates the cramped keyboard. Now this is someone with hands that are on the small side as he's just 5'3" tall and very slightly built. So if he is complaining (a guy that rarely complains about anything) that speaks volumes. Since he's used BB's for work for over five years I trust his input.

Sizes are the same between these two with the only exception being the 9700 at 1/2mm thicker than the 8900.
    109 x 60 x 14.0 mm weight 122g for the 9700
    109 x 60 x 13.5 mm weight 110g for the 8900

I see this new 9700 as the perfect new Curve.

The Real Bold 9000 has a much larger more useful display and faster more comfortable keyboard.

Too bad RIM said we were getting a new Bold.
how do you determine the speed of a keyboard? the action of engaging an electric switch as you click a keyboard key is pretty universally determined by the speed of an electron or two...

Can u tell me on average how long the battery lasts? On my Bold 9000 with approx 45 min call, 100 emails, 40 sms and a few bbm I get a day and a half out of my battery. Thanks in advance.

Battery holds out better than the 9000 - I attribute the fact to a better OS (better radio reception) as well as a smaller screen. But only time will tell...

When it comes to tech, You will always find 1 or 3 out of the box that is faulty. I am stuck between the Storm 2 or Bold 2. write now the storm 2 has the up due to the screen size. I think RIM should be focusing on releasing some devices with large screens. The 9700 is a half a point behind my decision due to the 3G. And I would like to have a 3G device that works on Tmo 3G. I am going to check it out and play with it a little at the Tmo store today to make sure I make a good choice.

My Bold is thru Tmo but I am loving it! Played with the Bold #1 a few times and besides the width, feels pretty much the same. Coming from the 8900, it was a smooth transition. Had to just get use to the keyboard and learn the new OS(chose not to download 5.0 on the 8900).

The 3G is great(first phone owned with 3G) and have not experienced any lost calls or problems connecting like I did while on 2G/EDGE.

This is a solidly built phone that I love very much. The little nuances some have raised are minute to me @ this point.

Checked out the 9700 at the Tmo store today. To me, I feel that the 9700 is a better version of the 8900, and not the 9000. Same size, over all, same screen size as the 8900. but with a track pad, rubber buttons, mini usb was moved, and looked sleeker. I am going to go with the Storm 2 9520. If it dont work out. I can always got get the 9700. Its gonna be here for a while....lol

I am currently holding out on upgrading my Curve 8310 as the Bold 9700 is not yet available in the UK on O2 (it is on Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile so far). But before I commit myself to a 2 year contract, I am hoping some of you guys might be able to answer a couple of questions for me

    1. Can anyone tell me if the sound quality for actual calls is the same/better/worse than the Curve8310?

    2. Also, I have 2 family members who have Bold 1s and the ringer volume is pathetic compared to my current Curve 8310. I know it had a lot to do with the back cover and positioning of the speaker on the Bold - has this been addressed on the Bold 9700?

I'm a digital hearing aid user and can never get any help from sales people in the UK about such things!

    3. Is the trackpad working well?
The trackball was a huge improvement on the side dial of my first 2 BBs, but I am now experiencing pain in my thumb from constant use of the trackballs from the 8100 and 8310.
So have so far been awaiting the 9700 rather than going for the 8900 Curve... Any comments?

Any other thoughts/comments would also be welcomed.

    Cheers All

I found this for the 9700's hearing aid rating: Rating for hearing aids (PDF): M3, T3 (in cellular bands only). Not sure about your other questions.
