This week has been a HUGE news week. PinStack has had over 50 news items posted in the past 7 days!
The week started with more Bold launches and a super comprehensive Bold User Guide. As the date draws closer for the ATT launch here in the US, the anticipation has grown out of control. Registration opened for the BlackBerry Partners Fund Developers Challenge, with PINStack as one of three judges for Most Innovative Personal Productivity and Lifestyle Application. Reports from Gartner Research show that RIM was the biggest winner in a slowing smartphone market in the second quarter, roughly doubling its market share from a year ago to 17.4 percent, while Motorola claimed in a lawsuit that Research In Motion Ltd. is illegally stealing its workers in violation of an agreement between the two rivals. Motorola asked a judge to bar RIM from using Motorola's confidential information or soliciting or hiring any Motorola employees. Motorola also seeks more than $50,000 in damages. RIM has opened a new R&D facility in Bochum, in the North Rhine-Westphalia region of Germany. RIM's investment is welcome after Nokia angered many Germans by announcing it would pull out of Bochum and invest in Romania. And in a newsletter, RIM announced that later this month, BlackBerry Device Software v4.5 will be promoted and made generally available for download at BlackBerry.com.
Cognitive Powers launched BBSportsLines this week, a mobile application for blackberry devices to display up-to-date sports odds. The free application allows blackberry users to import up-to-date sports odds from a multitude of sports from around the world. Odds for side wagers, totals, futures, and even propositional wagers are available. Weight Watchers has launched a mobile *wap* site which enables Weight Watchers Online and eTools subscribers free access to the same weight loss planning and tracking tools that help them stay on track, from any location, at anytime on a supported mobile device. TimeBridge has introduced the first Personal Scheduling Assistant designed to help busy people find a time to meet — fast. This innovative, new web application works across calendaring systems, companies and time zones.
Updated software includes myBoxTone Insight, WHERE for BB and the very popular VR application vlingo is out of beta. Google announced the launch of their new Google Mobile application which will allow easy access to Maps, Gmail, News, and more from Google. The guys over at viigo released viigo 3.0 Beta 3 early (well, for us left coast people, it was early) this morning. You can download the PinStack branded version here. Want to be a beta tester? Beiks is looking for testers for thier dictionary application. Speaking of Beiks, they have also updated the game Color Lines to support BlackBerry 9000 aka BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry 8220 aka BlackBerry Flip.
