This question is always in my head when i see picture of blackberries that are still in the works or might come out soon, where do they get them? are they RIM employers?
~90 people get the swine flu and everyone is wearing face masks. Millions of people have AIDS but no one wears condoms...

    Possible answers:
    1. RIM employees
    2. Provider tech stuff (they have to test devices to see how they work with their network)
    3. Independent usability testers
    4. Newspaper tech/gadget/geek journalists

    Other answers are also possible...

Usually they are third party functionality analysts/evaluators, or carrier tech staff. Those are my bets. The obvious is to suspect RIM staffers, but that would be pretty risky as I'm sure getting a pre-release device is heavily NDA'd.

Sometimes a new BB will come out outside the USA while it's still being promoted IN the US and people with a "connection" overseas may get a new version. Caution should be exercised though to make sure it will work in the US - I think users have run into that problem.

RIM wants people to know the BB before they come out because it raises our curiosity.
    And god creates the BlackBerry.

There's the money aspect of it too, Jeff. Good point. It all comes down to that in the long run.

I used to have some good friends who owed a Porsche garage. They had a sign up there that said, "Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?" :d

I think that could applied to the new devices too..."How new do you want to be?
