Earthquake, makes my android damn useless

OK, just had a 5.9 earthquake, centered less than 50 miles or so. Woke me up and startled hell out of me. Doesn't happen in VA often.
Of course everyone is worried about loved ones, myself included. Texts sorta work, calls aren't happening, and the web is sketchy. 911 is down, so I guess even land lines useless.

Not a terrible earthquake, but honestly frustrating as hell not being able to find out if my wife and children are safe.

Sorry folks. Just a little freaked and needed to vent.

No worries, Jay. Hope all is okay. We felt it here in NC, too.

Yeah, not trying to make a mountain out of a molehill here. Just found out it was about 25 miles from here. Just not something that happens up here. Clearly not prepared, cell calls useless, makes me wish for a landline.

Can't get my wife, but here the boys are OK, they were closer. I'm sure they're scared. They would be around 10 miles.

She's home. Still no real word on boys, but I'm sure they're fine. Their mom has promised to text.

Seriously thinking about landline now. I mean 5.9 isn't all that bad, yet area cell service just catching up. Doesn't feel all that safe with just cell.

Jay, hope is all ok with your family (and everyone elses family in the area). Although 5.9 is not that big it is large for an area where it does not happen often and may not be prepared for it. Japan would say just a little shake, maybe CA would say the same, but it would be equivalent to having the Canadian Cold in Texas, or the Texas heat in Canada, when you don't have the heating or the air conditioning it can do a lot of damage. Let's hope cells and landlines get up and running soon.

Thanks to all, but it was more frustrating than anything else.

Well I only get here at the end. I hope everything is settled and everyone is ok Jay.
A 5.9 is already very unnerving. Had a similar experience in Italy 4 or 5 years ago in Assisi - The frightening thing are the buildings shaking around you and the ground moving. At the time the whole family was together, so my worries wern't the same. Don't want to go through that again though.

Reading on the blogs that BB e-mail and BBM kept on working with no problem, something to do with the smaller data transmission, now all RIM has to do is get out there and advertise it

Well just maybe returning to BB QNX in the future, then you can still have Android Apps
