    Hello all,

I have a question that I hope someone can answer. My friend of mine recently purchased the 8900, while on the 8900 He added me as a messenger contact on bbmsg using a pin. After ~2weeks He went to the palm pre, He just came back with a new 8900... He returned his pre to the sprint store. I got Him to upgrade to new bbmsg 5.0 which I use too.

What I found interesting is that He did not need to add me to messenger anymore. Its as if the store gave him the same phone back but this phone is brand spanking new.

Is there a new tech that is being used now by RIM for pin messenging? Does that new tech have anything to do with the new bbmsg 5.0 with barcode technology completely eliminating the need to use pin #?

    thanks for reading.

Remember that little email you got when you installed BBM5.0 that wanted to confirm it was yours? I am willing to bet one of the features in that is the backup of contacts. I haven't seen this before this post, but I knew there was a reason RIM was using email verification for BBM5.

Yes I remember that specific odd email. It makes some sort of sense, my buddy had a backup of His old 8900 done. The email verified by both of us upon BIS registration was used this time around to automagically re-add the users. No need for requests and confirmations.

Did any of you restore your blackberry with a previous backup? The backup stores your messenger contacts, also they are limked to your blackberry email address.

And now with 5.0, when you get a request you no longer
see a weird pin number. You see the requester's name.
    Very convenient!

Very glad I was able to get 5.0 to install error free on my device. I have been extremely happy with it.
