The Pre Will Indeed Launch Days Before A Likely iPhone Buzz Saw

mobilecrunch.com: The Palm Pre’s official launch date is set to be unveiled tomorrow in the Wall Street Journal. But it looks like the New York Times may have one-upped its rival with a story today giving a launch window for the device. While it doesn’t give an exact date, NYT reports that Sprint will be released in the first week of June, citing people briefed with the company’s plans.

And the story goes on to say that Apple could launch a new iPhone on June 8 (the WWDC keynote), which would be “just a few days” after the Pre’s launch. While earlier rumors had the device launching on June 7, the day before WWDC, newer reports have suggested the date could be June 5 — that seems more in line with the “few days” statement, though it’s possible NYT doesn’t know the exact date.

I've said it in other threads but will say it again. I'm looking forward to the release of this new phone. It will push other companies to improve their products. We all benefit from that. I also think Palm is hoping the Pre will benefit from the next iPhone release by debuting so close to WWDC announcements. Many will be thinking about both rather than just the new iPhone.

Looks like Sprint is pulling out all the stops for the launch. Word is all Sprint Stores will close early Friday to prepare for the Saturday Pre Launch party.

How do I say what I'm thinking without offending anyone?
I don't believe there will be any lines outside any Sprint stores. They may be busy but no long lines and server crashes when activations are done.
    Was that ok?

I am not sure I understand what the fuss is all about either, however there does seem to be a lot of anticipation and buzz about this device so I guess we shall see.

I read that article. This is the second coming for Sprint and they are very optimistic. This is good for customers, however, all of their internal issues still have to be resolved to keep from destroying the the success of this highly anticipated release.

I have read that too, I don't know anyone who works for them so I can't get any real feelings about it. If true, that is often an even bigger hill to climb than any device. A few egos and greedy people can ruin a good thing.

Found this link while reading more about the Palm Pre.

IMO, I don't think it will matter. The new 3.0 firmware update for the current iphone(3G) is going to be great. If the newly revealed specs for the new iphone (July) are true, it's just going to "buzzsaw" the new device for palm/sprint....just my opinion. I'm forecasting a "hot" summer for Apple.

    maybe its just me

but i don't think sprint is trying very hard to keep up. ithink they could do a lot better. i think they have the same motto the car companies had (if you build it they will come) hence the reason why the car companies are going down.all they seem to do is come out with a cheap knock off of the iphone. but maybe its just me, maybe the palm pre will be an awsome phone. but judging by the last few phones they attempted to come out with, htc touch (grap) had one for a weak , didn't like it. had nothing but problems. bought a bb curve , love it. but all the other networks have pretty much the same phones avail. and the other phone companies have their own phones that the other companies can't use on any other network. like the iphone. a couple of friends have it and its a great phone. not any problems with it. the blackberry storm another good phone. my cousin has it, and he loves it. never had any problems. anyway this is just my opinion. i'm just wondering when sprint is gonna come out with their own bb touch screen that will blow the other phones out of the water. and make it so that all the other networks won't be able to use it. instead of coming out with cheap knock off's that cost a lot of money, throwing out a lot hype campaigning and turning out to be a highly priced piece of grap.

I've read Sprint & Palm are suffering financially, if true I'm sure they are doing all they can with what they have. Every time you turn around there is one article after another stating this is make or break for them. Let's hope the Pre keeps them going.

Thumbs up June should be interesting.

There will be carnage. And now The Storm 2 may also be released. Wow, June will be quite a month! Clash of the titans.

I feel the same way about the Pre that I did about the iPhone when it was first released.

I'm glad for the competition in the market, but I couldn't really care less about the actual device.
