| What exactly is the Blackberry Browser?
Ok, I have seen people referring to the blackberry browser here. I have Tmobile and I am using the browser there. So my questions are: A: What is blackberry browser? B: How does it differ from the browser I am using? C: Do you still have to be in a service area to use the blackberry browser or does it run seperately? If anyone can give any insight or info on this it would be greatly appreciated. One thing I know is blackberry needs to have better owners manuals for these things!!! Thanks In Advance. |

The BB Browser is the one that lets you browse using HTML. It gives a more 'pc' like browsing experience. The carrier browser is usually a WAP browser which renders pages for cell phones. Its a little faster since it doesn't have to load as much as a HTML page. Both browsers need service to run good, otherwise they will timeout or not be able to connect to a page.

The Blackberry Browser also will only be available to you if your Blackberry is managed from a corporate Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES). It will be downloaded to your device when it is configured on the server.

It also works with a BIS. I have a BB Browser on my 8700c and I am on BIS with Cingular.

if you are on BIS, there wouldnt be proxies or firewalls that you wud be linked to..however, if you are on BES, then the BlackBerry Browser will be exactly like how u access your company internet...no porn or games sites...

| Re: What exactly is the Blackberry Browser?
Just came across this post. There is only one Browser application on the BlackBerry. How it behaves depends on which Service Books you have been sent by RIM or your BES. Your browsers can be MDS (BES), PMDS (BIS-B) and WAP (1.2, 1.2 secure, 2.0) but when you click an icon for any of these in the Ribbon. the BlackBerry will refer to a ServiceBook to see how to handle the data. For example. MDS goes to your BES and uses your company internet connection, PMDS goes through RIM's internet connection and WAP is supplied by the carrier.

well in a sense, yes. you need to have the appropriate service books for it to appear; that is, you can either register with an enterprise server, or if you're trying to use BIS, call your carrier and let them know (it happened to me...i was on a regular data plan and the browser didnt show up until the carrier put me on a special blackberry plan)

The BB browser sucks in my opinion. Is there a way to get the Opera browser be your default browser when open links from email? This is a nice browser! Thanks |

Wether I choose BB Browser or Internet Browser, I can still access internal company websites. I thought you were supposed to only be able to access internal sites when in BB Browser mode? Any ideas on why this works both ways for me? I have a BB 8830 with Sprint, and I use BES for corporate email.
