US Cellular - HTC - Data Plan Question

Hi, new user here. Currently I have a BB 8110 on AT&T. I do not
subscribe to any data services. Currently I am considering switching
to US Cellular with my mother in law under a family plan. The idea is
to take my AT&T bill from $65.00 for 2 phones to $20.00 for 2 phones
    on US Cellular.

I am looking to get a HTC 6800 (Titan) off of ebay to use for this. The
nice people at US Cell said the phone will not even work for voice on the
US Cell network without a data plan. Is this true? I managed to get out
the the US Cell rep that I don't need the $25 data plan (the plan they push
on everyone), I can get away with the $15 plan.

I don't want to pay for any data plan, is it necessary to have a data plan
on US Cell to get voice to work?

    Thanks!

    Hello Alpine,
I am sorry to say that you were misinformed about the 15 dollar plan. You can get a data only plan on USCellular for 29.99.
The only 15 dollar plan that I am aware of with USCC is the modem tethering plan that is an addition to the regular Data plan.
If you have a talk plan and a smart phone, a data plan is required by USCellular.
I know this because I am a BB customer of USCC, and I'm an agent as well.
The policy is pretty clear. You can look it up on their website if you want.
