Just got the galaxy s and it is amazing. Super fast and swipe is amazing and easy. What pm said about the galaxy s was an understatement. Pm thank you. Your details of it helped me choose this phone and I'm glad I did. All this was typed with swype.

Just went to get my dads BB replaced under warranty and had a chance to play with both the Desire and the Showcase.
Both are fantastic phones. I LOVED the screen on the Showcase, and was very impressed with the build quality of the Desire.
As far as speed and smoothness, I would say that they are equal for most uses.

Perfect phone imo would be a mix of the two. The Galaxy screen with the Desire body.

Everyone should be pleased whichever you chose.

Well damn, my "device replacement fee" is a bit more than what it says on my account, that is if I DON'T want to trade in the Hero. Now I have to decide whether to wait for it to go down some, or just bite the bullet and pay. I hate that CS has such good coverage, then I feel screwed when it comes to stuff like this. :-(

I called to ask what the deal was, and they said the Device Replacement Fee that shows on my account ASSUMES the trade-in of the old device. So they would give me $40 for the Hero. It's not that much money either way, it's more the principal of it at this point. I'm aggravated about it, but I may go ahead and get the Galaxy S... I'm gonna think about it more, though...
