I used to be able to do this on my curve. I don't know what .cod file I can move in java folder to rid myself of pre-loaded photos. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can use CrackMem that will do it for you or the cod files may be net_rim_bb_medialibrary.cod or net_rim_bb_medialoader_folders_XXXxXXX_b.cod . Not 100% sure tho. You may have to do trial and error until you find the right ones.

Do you have the great free app - BBFileScout? If not, get it first. Then, it's as simple as 1-2-3. Hit BBFileScout, choose "system" folder, choose "samples" folder, choose "pictures", chose the one(s) you want to delete (hit menu, choose delete). As easy as that. Why mess with all the *.cod files and what not?
