    Jailbreak iPhone 3G

I have read that unlocking on windows at least, the 3G, required redsn0w - I also read that the jailbreak using this causes users to experience horrible battery drain issues. Is this the only JB option available for the 3G running 3.0.1 and if so, is the battery life really affected?

I don't believe it's the JB method that hurts battery life but rather the Apps used and how they are used that causes the most drain on the battery. The 3G battery is not that good to begin with, adding to it sure does not help. The 3GS on the other hand has an improved battery and I think last much longer. So I would pay close attention to the Apps used more than the redsn0w and windows issue.

having done close to 100 jailbreaks, ive noticed iphone battery life is gernerally 100% dependant on the person...if your battery life you think is bad now, it wont exactly make it better but to the same degree people that have iphones arent the "i use it 10 minutes a day for an emergency" people...i have people say " i only get 6 hours...but i use 5 hours of web on wifi while listening to music and sending 300 text"...then you shouldnt expect 2 days of charge...

the 3.0 jailbreak should be ok...if your concerned about battery life, there are things you can do to make it better (disable 3G, etc.)

you actually upgraded to os 3.1 and there is no jailbreak for os 3.1 you have to downgrade your os back to 3.0.1 or 3.0 to be able to jailbreak. Those links and stuff you found were pre 9/9/09 apple event when they released os 3.0 and stop allowing people to downgrade. Did you upgrade to itunes 9?

Yeh...my girl plugged it in and it asked her to upgrade to 3.1...she thought she was doing me a favor by upgrading me to the newest stuff..lol..not sure if i have itunes 9 or not. Would that matter on what i can and cannot do? Will i still be able to downgrade?

when you upgrade to itunes 9 it deletes the old ipsw files (3.0 or 3.0.1) from your itunes library. and if you don't have them somewhere else in your computer than you would have to download from internet. You need to have the firmware you want to downgrade to and then go into itunes and while holding the shift key press restore and browse your computer for the fw you want to downgrade to and select it. I have read all over the place about apple not allowing downgrade from 3.1 but I think that is only for 3G S iphones not 3G or 2G so give it a shot if it works and you downgrade the fw then you could jailbreak with redsnow.
