OK Apple Experts....I am looking to you guys for a solution here....

Does anyone know a way to jailbreak a 2G iPhone with a non-working Home Button? I understand there are cydia app's that will replace the home button functions if I can get past the Jailbreak issues...any ideas?

The key to the jailbreak is getting the iphone into DFU mode

However with that being said, this was on another forum...

Alternate Method:* Going Into DFU Mode Without Button Pushing: (on windows) Easier than timing the buttons just right!

1.) First download the required archive http://www.sendspace.com/file/93fx93

2.) Extract the archive to the root of your hard drive, should be C:/DFU/ 3.) Connect your iPhone and ignore iTunes

    4.) Goto Start – run

    5.) Next type in “c:/dfu/dfu iBSS.m68ap.RELEASE.dfu”

6.) Wait for iPhone to show a “white” screen

7.) Now you may proceed to downgrade!

    Sorry if its formatted funny

I just have to ask? Curiosity is killing me.

Why doesn't the home button work?

Damage I assume. Bought cheap on CL to play with - I assumed I could unlock it &/or replace the Home button (only $6 on cnn) but that looks like quite a task...as I read on this it does not seem to be that unusual for these to go bad....

Whew.... I thought I was missing something.
Without the Home Button I don't think you will be able to navigate much. That is what opens/closes Apps.
After opening the first App you will be stuck.

Here is another site to assist in looking for parts and Tudors.

There are cydia apps that emulate the home button with a screen gesture and such. He could still close apps once those were installed.

Thats my Catch 22 - If I can jailbreak it can work around the home button issue - the trick is getting Cydia installed...

pretty much SOL without repairing the home button they fixed the alternative method for going into DFU mode without the home button in OS 1.1.4.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but thats pretty much the situation.

Well then I guess it is back to CL it goes. If no reasonable offers come along I may just learn how difficult it is to replace that little button

Is it possible to downgrade the OS in order to jailbreak the device and unlock it? At least I could give it a little test run...

lol have to use the home button to put it into DFU mode to downgrade.
its really not as hard as it looks, the hardest part is getting the screen off which isnt very hard at all.
