as well....if don't have data plan...how big is a PIN message, say this long?

No it does not it uses Data Not SMS

I'm new to the blackberry world and I was wondering if BB Messenger uses text messages or is it a free feature with every blackberry? Thanks!

BB Messenger, uses the PIN to PIN transport mechanism, which is a data transmission protocol. It does not use text messages (SMS). It is available to all BB users that have a Blackberry data plan.

What icon tells you that the person receiving the PIN has read the message? After I send a PIN, I see a checkmark with a D over it telling me that the message has been delivered. What does the icon look like after the person receiving the PIN reads their message?

wickcity, I'm not sure but I don't believe that for just a Pin message, that there is a read confirmation. There is for BB Messenger Messages, but I have never seen one for a PIN.

Just got my Pearl (and first Blackberry) a couple of weeks ago. Took me to long to find this site!
I always wondered what the point of PIN Msging was, now I know.
