Without a Blackberry Data Plan, you have just a phone and simple PIM device. Unless you can get out of your contract or that carrier decides to contract with RIM to provide Blackberry data plans, you are out of luck. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that is the way it works. You will only have Voice and SMS communications.

    Rao:

If you already have a BlackBerry, then another carrier should allow you to buy a BB data plan.

Where did you get your BB from? You didn't buy it from your carrier, or they would support it.

i did not buy from my service provider. Service provider does not support gprs for blackberry. one basic question is that i do not know whether i can use bb 7230 with just TCP settings and a third party browser. My service provider has activated gprs and has given me APN information only. He says, with APN i should be able to access internet which i am not able to do.

Sorry to say it, but you won't be able to use gprs unless your wireless carrier supports BlackBerry and you buy a BlackBerry data plan. That's the only way.

Unless you change carriers, it doesn't sound like this is going to work out for you.

However, you will still be able to use it for voice calls and SMS/MMS.

No, You will need a Blackberry Data Plan for any data service. Without a BB data plan the only thing you will have is Phone and SMS messaging.
