    Question how to use BB without the support of BES ?or MDS

    Advertisement

    I am using BB 7230 with a local cell phone service
    provider. i want to connect to GPRS but i do not have
    a browser. Service provider has enabled the GPRS
    service for my SIM. Service provider does not support
    any blackberry device regarding BES or MDS or service
    book entries. Please advice on how to go about
    using GPRS.

    Regards

    Do they have a BlackBerry Data Plan (or BIS-BlackBerry Internet Service)? That is what you will need to connect and not be on a BES.

    Service provider does not have any support for Blackberry data plan. They support other devices like Nokia Motorolla etc. On my BB 7230 i find gprs in lower case. Also i get a message "Data Connection Refused". i do not have a browser service entry in the bb device. Can i get a browser service book from any other source. i am totally new to this. please suggest.

    You won't be able to download or install a third party browser until your carrier supports BlackBerry Data plans.

    Go to your carrier's BlackBerry internet service (BIS) website and go to Setup Internet Email. Click on Send Service Books. Then, on the BlackBerry, go to Options>Settings>Advanced Options>Host Routing Table and click your trackwheel and select Register Now. Then take the battery out, wait a few seconds, and put it back in.

    Rao, Welcome to PinStack.

    Are you Traveling in India, or is that your prime carrier. Unless that Carrier supports BlackBerry Devices and provides BlackBerry Data Plans you will never be able to connect to the RIM network. That Carrier must have access capability to the RIM network. You will need to change carriers if they do not support BB devices. The reason you can't get the o2 service books, because they are sent OTA through the RIM Network, not to your email address.

    Sorry
    Rcbjr.

    Thank you Rcbjr,

    I am from India and i am using BB 7230 as a phone. i want to check email and browse internet on BB 7230 through GPRS from a local service provider who does not have any settings for Blackberry. All that the service provider provides is the APN, User for APN and Password for APN. Is this information sufficient to login to the internet. am i trying to do what is not possible. I am stuck with this service provider for the next one year. is there any way out or just use phone service.
