Thumbs up How-To Save Gas By Hypermiling

I was up late Saturday night and bored so I turned on the TV. It was left on CNN, as I was about to change the channel this report/interview started about saving gas and hypermiling.

I left it on the channel, and learned a few handy tips. I also got the name of a website a guy started after 9/11 on how he does this and saves gas.

Get this...on his normal Honda Accord which offers 25mpg...he gets 50mpg through this hypermiling method!

    The website is called Hypermiling.

What is hypermiling? According to a a fantastic August 2006 story in the Washington Post, it is a method of increasing your car's gas mileage by making skillful changes in the way you drive, allowing you to save gas and thereby have an easier time withstanding the rising oil and gas prices.
They also have their own forums where you can ask questions if you have any.

Something else they offer is Hypermiling Training for Businesses.

    See the hypermiling How-To methods

I hope this helps everyone. Gas prices in my area are nearing $4 a gallon, not cool.

I know they are already at least $4 in other areas, so this should help a bit.

Enjoy, and please leave feedback regarding whether or not you notice a difference. I started using basic methods, so I'll post back when I try the others and see how it affects my MPG.

Color---it's nothing but a hue of the rainbow...why do people place such importance in it?

CNN had a thing on the hybrids also. They are nice cars but, you don't really make out in terms of money.

Unless of course you are planning on keeping that same hybrid as the only car you'll drive for the rest of your life, you won't make out financially.

It's a car! Who looks to make out in the end? LOL....I never paid a dime for the car----traded a fully loaded Taho in for this car, and came out WITH equity in it (plus got an extra $2000 tax incentive that year---totall of $8k back for the car and my kids!!) So---I guess some do make out in the end! LOL! After all----hypermilling wont help too much either....50mpg in a normal car now a days? Not happening...unless it's a hybrid.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~i barley get 10mpg. I don't think anything will help unless I get a different car.

I saw a brief clip about this on CNN the other day.

I actually started driving 55 MPH on the highway a few weeks back. Tends to make other drivers upset, but I get better mileage.

Me too. Just driving slower and less quick starts. Some people get pretty crazy with this stuff but I believe if you just use some common sense, you can improve gas mileage and save money.

yeah, the problem is, driving 55 in a 75, is likely to cause an accident from someone not paying attention, texting, or being a typical blackberry user and not having full focus on the road and grabbing our best friend to see what it needed.....

Anything above 55-60 burns unnecessary fuel. I believe I have noticed more people slowing down.
