Splenda and all those artificial sweeteners are bad stuff, Jay. Go out and get yourself some Stevia. All natural and you only use a tiny bit.

You're almost through day two. Nice job.

I'm doing fine guys. Come on Jay. This is a mind game and I found two solutions to help.
Since its important to have something as a substitute I have a toothpick or a lollipop handy. It works.
Splenda and Stevia ? Nah! Something else will keep you busy.
    Viagra...

That's where it landed after smacking it. Haven't touched it since.

You know what I did about sugar? It was bad at first given that we drink REAL coffee here , but after about a month of finding out I was diabetic, I don't have sugar at all, and the coffee is great...Simple. Plus I'm almost all vegetarian and happy to be so.
My sugar levels are way down, sometimes too low which is also very dangerous, so I indulge a bit when it is, and have a cake with coffee.
No artificial crap here. All natural...Eh!Eh!...

I just don't like black coffee. Maybe giving up smoking will change that. I was hyperglycemic, but I'm waiting on the final tests.
Triglycerides were 3 times normal and sugar was 2 times normal. I had pretty much fasted that day. Dr gave me a probable diabetic with the new test to confirm.

Cass was in there with me and between her and the Dr I didn't stand a chance. No sweet tea with sugar and quit smoking. Want the tea more than cig sometimes.

So Wed I get final tests. Maybe sooner.

I have wanted to quit smoking but lacked willpower. Not given a choice. I have tried to bargain, you know, 1 here and there but she's dug in.

My wife acted pretty much the same. My count on the day I found out was 589. I had blurred vision for about two weeks before and did not know the reason. Had to get new prescription glasses which I dumped a month later. I have a new set now. Sugar "fattens" the retina and that's why my myopic state went bad...now it's back to measurements of 2002, so my eye sight has actually improved with the control of diabetes. And I walk a lot - about 8kms a day.
After all the initial medication and total abstinence from sugar (for about a month and a half) my levels dropped significantly to a max of 180 after lunch or supper, to about 90 in the morning. But sometimes it goes down to the seventies which is worrying. That's when I indulge a bit.
Cholesterol is at 190, the trigs at 110. I haven't felt better in a long time...
So if I did it, so can you. Just bite the bullet.

    Will do.
Didn't expect little things in life to disrupt so much.

Just started reading these 5 pages of posts, FIRST of all CONGRATS on your positive choice to stop smoking and SECONDLY....CONGRATS on your success this far. I'm proud of both of you. I started smoking when I was 15 and decided when I was 17 that it wasn't a very smart thing to be doing and stopped cold turkey, while I only smoked a few years I do seem to remember quitting wasn't a very fun experience. Hang in there guys you can do it! :-)

I gave up milk and sugar in tea and coffee years ago when in South East Asia as the only choice was either condensed or sterilized milk, didn’t like the taste of either. With regards to sweet tea, try getting some of the flavored teabags or tea leaves instead, check out the mint, melon, strawberry flavors, then there are various green teas which are really good not the ready made ones as they all are sweetened.

Exercise like walking can not only reduce the diabetes but it is also good for the heart, as you get out there it is surprising how much you can enjoy it. Take an evening walk with the family after dinner, while it's still light.
