    blackberry disc

i bought my bb from tmo brand new and it came with a disc. from my understanding it is to synch the bb to my pc and pc to bb. i wanted to atleast backup my address book to my pc but nothing is coming up in the device database box. i also wanted to use to be able to DL apps. on my pc due to the fasted DL speeds and transfer to bb. Am i asking for too much from the software, if so what is it exactly used for? i also thought a pic of the bb should come up on pc monitor when bb is connected to pc (the razor program).

Its the desktop manager program and an operating system...You need to put the CD in and install the DM program.

Bfix, you have the Desktop Manager Icon correct? The blue/white one? I am trying to figure out exactly what the issue is that is not letting you connect to your DM

    Re: blackberry disc

Yep, thats it...have you double clicked that?

When you do it should bring up your desktop manager window correct?

Also, for some reason (yet to be figured out with a great scientific answer) a lot of people are noticing (especially on laptops) that if you plug your BB in first and THEN start Desktop Manager, it will stop responding and crash. However if you start Desktop Manager THEN plug in the BB, it will work fine. Who knows why?

Also, when DM is opened, you can add applications/remove applications/backup/restore/intellisync, etc.

    Re: blackberry disc

yeah i doubled clicked on it and it brought up the desk top manager, and the add applications/remove applications/backup/restore/intellisync, etc. came up. but why does it say disabled on the bottom of the box. then for example i double click on the back and restore, click on advanced and the two boxes come up desktop database and device database. with both boxes blank. is this normal.

    Re: blackberry disc

bfix, it sounds like your Desktop Manager is not recognizing your Hand Held. Open DM, Connect your BB, if it doesn't recognize your handheld go to Options/Connection Settings and make sure USB is selected then click on Detect.

If that doesn't work, use Windows Explorer to browse the Installation CD for a file that looks something like this,

    8700E_PBr4[1].1.0_rel175_PL2.0.0.90_A4.1.0.194_Cingular.exe,

only with your Device and Carrier

Execute that file and then check to see if it allows you to do anything with Desktop Manager.

Sometimes you need the Handheld OS installed on the PC to get full function on the DM.

    Hope this helps
    Rcbjr.
