    BB Messenger not fully operational on my 7100t

    Advertisement

    My 7100t sends messages fine, but I can only receive jpgs or other attachments. I don't receive the text of replies. I've followed the typical reinstall instructions, and still no joy. I can receive PIN messages outside BB Messenger fine, and AOL IM works. Any ideas on getting BB Messenger to fully work?

    Ok I created an *.alx file for BB messenger. Try downloading it and installing using the desktop manager app loader.

    Download here: http://www.pinstack.com/bbm.alx

    Acutually before you do that try opening the .alx file that comes with Blackberry Messenger when you download using your PC. When you open it you'll see this:

    Code:
     <fileset SystemSize="normal" Colour="True" Java="1.0" _vendorID="~100|114|115|118|120|122|123|124|129|130|132|133|1  34|136|137|138|139|140|143|148|152|153|161|166|167  |168|169|170|171|176|188|192|193|194|195|196|197|1  98|199|200|201|202">
                    <files>
                        net_rim_bb_smileys_default.cod
                        net_rim_bb_qm_peer.cod
                    </files>
                </fileset>

                <fileset SystemSize="normal" Java="1.0" _vendorID="~100|114|115|118|120|122|123|124|129|130|132|133|1  34|136|137|138|139|140|143|148|152|153|161|166|167  |168|169|170|171|176|188|192|193|194|195|196|197|1  98|199|200|201|202">
                    <files>
                        net_rim_bb_qm_peer_resource_en.cod
                    </files>
                </fileset>
    Remove the two instances of ~ where you see "vendorID="~

    Or I completed it here so u can just replace the alx contents with this:

    Code:
     <fileset SystemSize="normal" Colour="True" Java="1.0" _vendorID="100|114|115|118|120|122|123|124|129|130|132|133|1  34|136|137|138|139|140|143|148|152|153|161|166|167  |168|169|170|171|176|188|192|193|194|195|196|197|1  98|199|200|201|202">
                    <files>
                        net_rim_bb_smileys_default.cod
                        net_rim_bb_qm_peer.cod
                    </files>
                </fileset>

                <fileset SystemSize="normal" Java="1.0" _vendorID="100|114|115|118|120|122|123|124|129|130|132|133|1  34|136|137|138|139|140|143|148|152|153|161|166|167  |168|169|170|171|176|188|192|193|194|195|196|197|1  98|199|200|201|202">
                    <files>
                        net_rim_bb_qm_peer_resource_en.cod
                    </files>
                </fileset>

    The file you uploaded appears to be just a text file.

    yup. that's all they are really. Treat it just like you would have before you knew they we just text files withthe *.alx extention. It should work. Try loading it without uninstalling BB messenger. using your pc

    Re: BB Messenger not fully operational on my 7100t

    Both of the text files above still have the vendor ID.

    The AIM that comes on your 7100 from t-mobile uses SMS messaging to send and receive the text messages.

    BB Messenger uses data on the GPRS network to tranfer the messages and NOT SMS. If you're getting regular PIN messages, you should be okay with the Messenger program. Let me look into how it sends and receives.

    T-Mobile may not offer support for the program because it did not come loaded on the device.

    Stay Tuned - we'll get you taken car of.

    The vendor ID should be ok. It's the "~" that has to be removed.

    Re: BB Messenger not fully operational on my 7100t

    I wondering if the problem may be that I have a time keeper program (TimeTracker) which keeps my tcp connection on Tmobile open all the time. It seems that Tmobile only allows one tcp connection at a time. I found the following discussion on a similar problem regarding another program in another forum:

    t-mobile screwing up? (wap.voicestream.com)
    I'm running ssh on my blackberry (midpssh and idokorro) via the tcp gateway wap.voicestream.com.

    Worked great 'till about 2 weeks ago when the following error message started appearing while trying to connect to a host:

    "Session Error - Writer: Max connections opened"

    The error appears to be coming from wap.voicestream.com, not internally from the bb.

    What gives? Is t-mobile back to blocking protocols through wap.voicestream.com? Is the gateway overloaded?

    Is there a fix? Is there a fix coming? Is there someone to contact?

    ssh from my bb is one of the primary reasons I've got the bb

    Thanx in advance

    RE: T-MOBILE TCP connection broken (wap.voicestream.com)
    I just fixed it.

    I removed bbtoday ..

    bbtoday opens a connection(s) for it's weather today feature and keeps that connection(s) open in the background..

    I assume that t-mobile only allows a fixed number of connections between a bb and wap.voicestream.com.

    I also assume that bbtoday used up all the connection(s) allowed ...

    So, if you get an error message of "max connections opened", try removing all the other apps that hold connections open through your carrier's tcp gateway and that may fix the problem.

    It did in my case.

    Great info.

    If you're loving the BBToday type programs, you may try PocketDay. It does not keep the connection open.

    thanks again for posting your solution. I'm sure it will help others.
