How to remove PTT from AT&T OS

If you have an AT&T phone with the Push To Talk service, and don't use it, there is a way to remove it from your phone.

Normally, you can delete apps from your phone either by going to Options-->Advanced-->Applications; or by running Desktop Manager and Application Loader.

With PTT, these do not apply because it doesn't show up in the Application list.

Please remember, do this at your own risk, be sure to make a backup of your phone & data before trying. I have successfully done this with a Pearl 8100c running 4.2.1.96 and 4.2.1.101. Your results may vary.

Go to C:/Common Files/Research In Motion folder/[name of the current OS version you are running]

Inside that folder are a few hundred files with the extension *.cod

Each one of those files runs one application or another on your phone. Most of the apps you need. Remove the PTT application from the phone by renaming the *.cod extension to *.old for every file that had PTT in the name. (Approx. 9 of them) You can do this for any other app or theme that you decide you don't want.

Once you've renamed all the files you want to remove, plug your phone into your PC and run Desktop Manager/App Loader. It will then tell you that its going to delete the following apps (It should list PTT). If there is anything on that list that you DON'T want deleted, just click "back" or "cancel".

I would highly recommend that you simply rename the file extentions to *.old from *.cod. That way, if you decide you want them back, all you have to do is add the file extensions back.

Unless all I'm trying to do is remove PTT, not unlock all the vendor themes.

Re: How to remove PTT from AT&T OS

It is pretty simple to do.

    download javaloader.exe

make sure you have desktop manager loaded on the pc, but not running.

    connect blackberry to usb.

open command prompt and navigate to javaloader.exe

    ex... c:

    cd c:\

    then type

    javaloader.exe -usb erase -f net_rim_bb_phone_ptt_app.cod

    hit enter

It will then connect to your phone and remove the ptt cod. It will reboot your phone

    viola.

hit me with some trust points... lol

Hello, my first time to post. When it comes to the PTT; I just hide the icon, and then changed the side button to a memory key for another action (on mine, I made it a lock the blackberry action). Oh ya, I have the 8700C on a BES.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)welcome tapline. The reason people actually edit/delete their files is because it frees up some memory.

Re: How to remove PTT from AT&T OS

Wah! It's not working for me. PTT is still there. I tried the other way also..with the whole theme unlocking part. It's still there. Is it different for the 8310?

Re: How to remove PTT from AT&T OS

    did you go here:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8310-v4.2.2.181_P2.5.0.35\Java (your OS version numbers might be different...depending on what OS you are loading)

and delete the ONE ptt cod file?

    then run application loader again?

    always works for me

Re: How to remove PTT from AT&T OS

Yeah, that't the folder I went into and deleted that file, but PTT is still there. I tried rein. stalling the handheld software and then deleting the file again and then run app loader, but it just tells me that I didn't change anything.

    I deleted: net_rim_bb_phone_ptt_app.cod

So it's not in the Java file anymore, I verified that, but the app loader doesn't take it off when I run it.

Re: How to remove PTT from AT&T OS

I did delete the vendor.xml file. When I run the app loader, it read the device and it lists all the app i have downloaded, but I"m not taking any of those off so I hit next and it just says "No Action Required"

I followed all the steps but I must have missed something. I've read some of the other threads to make sure I didn't skip a step but it looks like I followed it all. Hmmm. I'm afraid to uninstall & reinstall the OS on the BB. I just downloaded FindIt OTA so I don't have the file to load up later. Will I loose it?

Re: How to remove PTT from AT&T OS

hmm...well, what I would do is uninstall the OS from your PC in control panel>add/remove; then reinstall it, make your mods and try again. don't do anything to the bb.
